Chapter 5

While reading “Exploring Topics and Creating a Research Proposal” the strategies for narrowing down a topic were helpful. It’s something that I do naturally, but having a list of different ways to narrow down a topic makes the process simpler. I liked how they told you that its ok to revise the research question as you do more research and learn more about the topic. This is nice because sometimes it feels like you should know everything about the topic that you choose and should have the question set in stone before you begin.

I really like how the chapter gave you clear strategies for picking a topic and creating a proposal. I feel that sometimes it’s difficult to even find a place to start when given an assignment, so having an outline makes it seem more manageable. Being able to visualize a starting point makes actually starting that much easier. I especially liked the strategies for narrowing down a topic because there are so many choices in the world wide web that giving pointers to find an interesting topic is very helpful. Having interest in a topic is important, but being able to research it and form an argument is also important.
